| Here is the latest news from River City Quartet |
May 19th Hi, Y'all!! Just a note to bring you up-to-date on River City. Royce is still recuperating from surgery, but doing well as can be expected. He practiced some with the group this week, but Alvin is still filling in for him, and doing a mighty fine job! Thomas' wife Francis went on to be with her Lord, May 12th. Her suffering is all over now, but y'all pray for Thomas as he is having to make many adjustments in his life now. We are not sure what his plans are, but we hope he will return to River City, maybe as a bass player, since we are still in need of one. The Lord knows what we (and Thomas) need. We got our bus painted again. This time, it is black. It looks real nice. Maybe I'll get some pictures up soon. 'Bye, for now! Keep us in your prayers! June 2nd We had a great time at Marvin Morrow's Farm last weekend. There were six other groups there, from soloists to bluegrass, and lots of 'open mic' singing. There was plenty of food and good fellowship. Royce is back with the quartet now, and we would like to express our gratitude to Alvin Mashburn for filling in for Royce while he was recuperating. Great job, Alvin!!! Until next time, keep us in your prayers. July 6th Thomas still hasn't decide whether to come back just yet. He still needs a little more time. Y'all pray for Thomas! Also pray for Paul. He is having some difficulties with his voice acting up on him. Joe has decided to leave the group at the end of this month. After two stints with the group, we will miss him greatly. Pray that we will find the right man for the job to take his place. I know God has someone out there for us. Until next time, keep us in your prayers. August 19th Well, things are changing for River City Quartet! To begin with, Joe has left and we have yet to find a piano player. So for now, we are using soundtracks. It sounds ok, but just takes some getting used to. Royce has fully recovered now and we are thankful to God for His healing. He had a rough go for awhile. Paul had to step down at Baritone because of voice problems. Hillard Boatwright is 'filling in' for us at baritone. We hope he will stay with us. He is a very talented singer and a good quartet man. We are blessed to have him. We are welcoming Thomas back with us at bass. We hate to say goodbye to Franklin Posey, who sang with us while Thomas was out, and we owe him a lot. He held up the bass end of things very well. August 27th Yesterday was our 2nd concert using sound tracks. It went well....sort of. We wiil have to get used to using a computer for our sound. It is different to say the least. It will take some getting used to. Pray for us as we make this adjustment. The air conditioner on our bus sprung a leak, so we had to get a new one. Well, we got it, but haven't put in on, yet. It was about 120 on that bus yesterday! Looking forward to COOLER days ahead! We are off this weekend for Labor Day, but are booked for the next five weeks following. Until next time, keep us in your prayers Dennis Lay October 4th, '08 Well it's been a long time since I updated this page! Many waters have gone under the bridge since I wrote on this page! Sometime last December Thomas had to quit traveling with us, because of his feet and lags. They just wouldn't hold him up for long periods of time on stage. We got Marshall Moore to fill in on bass. Then in February, Royce got sick again with cancer. This time it was worse than before. Alvin Mashburn agreed to fill in for Royce at tenor. We had three benefit singings for Royce in the months of March and April. Afterwards, Alvin and Marshall liked what they heard with River City and decided to stay with us. Thank God! He always provides, doesn't He? Royce went on to be with his Lord on June 5th. He requested that we keep on singing for the Lord, and that we intend to do. The group has cut a new CD and we are expecting it back from the studios any time now. We have been very busy, with singings just about every weekend. I am looking forward to see what God has in store for us. Keep us in your prayers, Dennis Lay |
